Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, Union University, Belgrade (Serbia) was established in 2009, by transformation of High School for Environmental Engineering.
The Faculty is the higher-education institution committed to training the generation of educated experts in landscape engineering and engineering ecology.
The Faculty provides accredited study programs aimed at realising priority tasks leading towards joining the European integrations. The Faculty has established the main missions and goals in accordance with the higher-education goals imposed by the Republic of Serbia and the Law of Higher Education.
All the study programs offered by the Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Sciences have been accredited. The Faculty offers one Elementary Academic Study program and two Graduate Academic Study programs. Doctoral studies are under the process of accreditation. Elementary Academic Study Program: Environmental Protection and Ecology (three-year study program – 180 ECTS) is committed to educating environmental protection analysts. Graduate Academic Studies (two-year programs – 120 ECTS) at the Faculty are continuation of Elementary Academic Studies. Two study programs are offered: 1. Environmental Protection and 2. Ecology, providing education for three professions: graduate environmental protection analyst – Master and graduate ecologist – Master.
The study programs provide the graduate students with the possibility to find employment in state institution and organisations, economy sectors, public sectors, scientific-research institutions, educational institutions, local self-government organs and non-governmental organisations.
Research activities are directed to natural sciences and performed by academic staff (ecologists, environmental scientists, geoscientists, nature resource specialists, waste and material resources specialists, waste water engineers/specialists and environmental management systems and standards specialists, EIA/SEIA practitioners, environmental policy and economy experts, environmental engineers), graduate and post-graduate students.
Within research activities, one of the topics of interest is CO2 geological storage. One national project related to CCS is under preparation, as well as project for Balkan (to UNESCO). Last year, LoI on cooperation with UNESCO was signed, with possibility of establishing UNESCO Balkan Office for CO2.
